Well, well, well, National Fish & Chip Awards starts today, glad it is still almost the nations favourite. Our favourite Friday’s in the Rumpus office always involve a good bag of Fish & Chips, salt & vinegar and a barm cake. Although some of the staff participate in mushy peas, beans, gravy and the odd mild curry sauce, these until recently have been the only requested oddments outside of the norm. However we now know times have changed as last week one of the sustainably aware members of the team had mackerel and chips, nice, good for our green credentials but it does send shivers down the traditionalist spine. So it was good to see in the Guardian some of the UK’s best thought out Fish and Chip shop names, so here goes our shortlist of favourites, Codrophenia in Sheffield, A fish called Rhondda in Mid Glamorgan, A Salt & Battery in New York, and The Rock n Sole Plaice in London, we would like to add the Battered Wife and We Fry to Satisfy in West Yorkshire. So the only thing really to do this Friday is visit the local.
