Rewards going to waste?

January 17th 2012

The ‘which bin for what’ saga continues in my house on a daily basis as we take care to recycle by the book.  Although councils are having to make cuts, recycling remains high on the list of importance with funds being pumped into ensuring it is done correctly.

To some, recycling is a chore, taking up valuable TV viewing or social networking time but with landfill sites running dangerously low, recycling is increasingly crucial. Not just for us, but for generations to come.

So what are the new incentives for us? As well as banning fines for simple mistakes when it comes to waste disposal, councils are introducing rewards to households that get on board with the environmentally-friendly campaign.  Residents are to be rewarded with points. You can then redeem the points for offers and cash of goods and services at local and national retail outlets, restaurants and leisure facilities.

Councils have also promised to make the policy surrounding recycling much clearer to help avoid those ‘oops’ moments.

I, for one, will be contacting my local council to ensure I am not missing out on these benefits. Points mean Prizes...it is as simple as that.
