It’s great to hear in the news today that more street parties are expected to be thrown to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year, than were held for last years royal wedding, between the lovely Wills and Kate.
According to the Telegraph, hundreds of people have already written to their local councils to say they want to hold public celebrations this summer to rejoice.
Now, I know there are a lot of people out there who couldn’t give two hoots about the royals, and a lot of you probably think it’s a waste of money, spending £10 million on a seven-mile long flotilla of 1,000 boats along the River Thames, and finally I know some people will go out of their way to avoid it altogether.
These days, there are few occasions where I feel proud to be British, but I know that on Sunday 3rd June, I will either be, tuned in to watch the event or attending a street party - eating cucumber sandwiches, quaffing champagne and toasting the queen, not just for the extra day off work but for showing Great Britain at its best.
