Learn to Love your leftovers

February 9th 2012

Surely nobody wants to waste food do they? After new studies have shown the average household throws away nearly 10% of what they buy in food a week, it would suggest the cost of food was easy on the pocket. Sadly, it’s not, and with prices expected to soar we should really start to think about the way our weekly shop impacts on the environment and our purses.

Many believe impulse shopping is unavoidable due to hectic schedules and unpredictable lifestyles – which I can certainly agree with on some levels. However, the average family could save up to £50 a month by strategically planning their shopping trips and weekly meals. In addition to forward planning, the internet is overflowing with ways to use your leftovers to cook up delicious meals and soups. Not only does this save you money, you are also making a real contribution to tackling climate change and living more sustainably by wasting less food.

So you’ve cut back on your shopping, you’ve prepared soup and sandwiches for lunch and there is still food for the bin? That’s where the dog comes in.
