It’s great to hear in the news this week that VisitBritain, the marketing body and UK tourism board has announced the launch of a £25m global marketing push to boost tourism to the UK over the next four years, and so they should!
As the recession bites, more people than ever are expected to holiday at home this summer – and they are in for a treat, the UK has for too long been neglected as a holiday resort for its inhabitants.
Now you might not think it now, with the wet, cold, miserable days we have been having, but soon the sun will be shining and Britain will be basking in its glorious, lush green countryside. There’s something about looking up at the leafy canopy that brings pure joy in your heart.
The UK may be small, but there are quite literally, thousands of places to visit and a million things to do from John O'Groats to Lands End, Belfast to St Davids. It has a wealth of history, culture, wildlife and its own unique eccentricities, rolling hills, the hedges and the age old forests, there is something for everyone.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am all for jetting off to some far off destination to bask in the guaranteed sun and lap up different cultures and experiences, but I am also partial to a bit of Britain too. So when summer finally arrives, I will be packing up the car with my camping gear and exploring a country that has me in a thrall!
