Celebrate the North West's journalists in this year’s Regional Press Awards

February 14th 2012

I’m glad to see this year’s entries to the Regional Press Awards have opened today which celebrate the best in regional British journalism.

It is easy to forget the hard work and dedication many journalists commit to when we’re sat at our desks or on our sofas digesting our own local newspaper. Not only do they keep us up to date with the important news from our region, from business and economics to heart-warming stories of love and survival, they are also very often an intrinsic element of many local business and personal successes, supporting those people, companies and charities which positively contribute to our local areas.

And as if all that wasn’t enough to contend with, our journalists are now facing a digital revolution, when tweeting the news is becoming as much a part of news reporting as writing editorial pieces!

Of course, as a proud Mancunian, I will be throwing my support behind our fantastic local and regional journalists. I’m absolutely certain there’ll be some deserving winners from the North West and can’t wait to hear the results!  Good l Goo

Good luck everyone!
